SAFETY & MODERATION

KEEP IT
HUMAN.

Creative communities work when people feel safe enough to show up, speak up and make things.

This page explains what is not allowed on The Joined, how to report a problem, how moderation works and what we may do when something goes wrong.

01
WHY THIS EXISTS

OUR APPROACH TO SAFETY.

The Joined is a creative community operated by Levlan International Marketing.

It is designed to help creative people discover one another, communicate, share work, organise projects, build professional relationships and meet in the real world.

Those opportunities also create responsibilities. We want people to be able to participate without being subjected to fraud, exploitation, threats, harassment or other harmful behaviour.

We therefore combine community rules, reporting tools, moderation and proportionate enforcement.

CONTEXT MATTERS.

A horror filmmaker showing a fictional murder, an actor performing an offensive character and somebody genuinely threatening another member are not the same thing.

Moderation should consider purpose, context, presentation and likely harm rather than reacting mechanically to isolated words or images.

Safety decisions may require judgement. We aim to apply our rules reasonably and proportionately while respecting legitimate creative expression.

02
SOMETHING WRONG?

REPORT IT.

If you believe content, an account, message, company, event, review or other activity on The Joined breaches our rules or presents a safety risk, please report it.

When possible, include enough information for us to identify the issue. Useful information may include:

01 WHAT

What happened and why you are concerned.

02 WHERE

The relevant profile, post, message, project, company or event.

03 WHEN

When the incident took place.

04 EVIDENCE

Relevant screenshots or other information where appropriate.

NEED TO REPORT SOMETHING? REPORT A SAFETY CONCERN →

You do not need to prove conclusively that a rule has been broken before making a good-faith report.

Reports are assessed on the information available to us and may require additional investigation.

03
HARD LIMITS

ILLEGAL & DANGEROUS CONTENT.

The Joined must not be used to facilitate, promote or distribute illegal activity or material.

This includes, where applicable:

01 child sexual abuse or exploitation material;
02 credible threats of violence or serious harm;
03 terrorism-related illegal content or activity;
04 unlawful hate, harassment or stalking;
05 fraud, phishing or criminal deception;
06 intimate material shared unlawfully or without consent;
07 malicious software or activity intended to compromise another person's device or account;
08 content or activity facilitating other serious criminal conduct.

Where we become aware of material that appears to be illegal, we may remove or restrict it and take additional action as appropriate.

Serious cases may be referred to an appropriate authority where required or permitted by law.

04
ART IS MESSY

CREATIVE EXPRESSION & CONTEXT.

The Joined is a community for artists and creative professionals. Creative work can explore difficult, disturbing, controversial or uncomfortable subjects.

A depiction of harmful behaviour does not automatically mean that the creator endorses that behaviour.

When assessing creative material, we may consider:

Artistic context Fiction Documentary context Newsworthiness Education Satire Performance Likely harm
Being creative does not provide an exemption from laws concerning threats, exploitation, harassment, privacy, copyright or other unlawful conduct.

Material that is lawful but potentially disturbing may, where suitable tools exist, be labelled, restricted or placed behind additional warnings rather than removed.

05
PEOPLE ARE NOT TARGETS

HARASSMENT, THREATS & HATE.

Members may disagree, criticise work, decline collaboration requests and express strong opinions.

That does not permit targeted abuse.

HARASSMENT

Repeated unwanted contact, intimidation, targeted humiliation, coordinated abuse or conduct intended to frighten or seriously distress another person may be removed or restricted.

THREATS

Credible threats of violence or serious harm are treated particularly seriously.

HATEFUL ABUSE

Attacking or degrading people because of protected or personal characteristics may breach our rules and, in some circumstances, the law.

CRITICISM IS NOT AUTOMATICALLY HARASSMENT

Negative feedback, professional disagreement or criticism of someone's work does not become harassment simply because it is unwelcome.

06
CONSENT

SEXUAL SAFETY & INTIMATE CONTENT.

Sexual harassment, sexual exploitation and the sharing or threatening to share intimate material without consent are not permitted.

Never upload sexual or intimate material involving another identifiable person unless you have all rights and legally valid permissions required to do so.

NO MEANS NO. SILENCE DOESN'T MEAN YES.

Professional networking, casting, modelling, acting or artistic collaboration does not create an entitlement to sexual contact, sexual images or intimate communication.

Pornographic material intended primarily for sexual gratification is not part of the intended purpose of The Joined.

Legitimate artistic work involving nudity or mature subject matter may be considered in context and may be subject to restrictions, warnings or other safeguards.

07
IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD...

SCAMS, FAKE JOBS & IMPERSONATION.

Creative industries unfortunately attract scams, particularly around casting calls, employment, equipment, accommodation, investment and project funding.

You must not use The Joined to:

01 impersonate another person, company or professional organisation;
02 create intentionally fraudulent casting calls or employment opportunities;
03 request money through deceptive opportunities;
04 conduct phishing or credential theft;
05 falsely claim professional credentials, affiliations or endorsements;
06 manipulate reviews or reputation systems.
WATCH OUT FOR PRESSURE + SECRECY + MONEY

Be especially cautious where somebody pressures you to act immediately, move conversations away from normal channels, keep an opportunity secret or send money before basic details can be verified.

08
WORKING WITH STRANGERS

COLLABORATION SAFETY.

The Joined helps people discover one another, but an account on The Joined is not a guarantee of someone's identity, qualifications, conduct or suitability for a project.

Before committing to significant work, consider independently checking relevant information.

CHECK WHO?

Confirm who you are actually dealing with.

CHECK WHAT?

Agree what the work actually involves.

CHECK MONEY?

Agree fees, expenses and payment terms.

CHECK RIGHTS?

Agree ownership, usage and credits.

Significant professional work is usually better supported by a written agreement rather than relying entirely on informal messages.

09
FROM ONLINE TO REAL LIFE

EVENTS & MEETUPS.

The Joined is intended to encourage real-world creative collaboration, so members may arrange or attend meetings and events.

Use sensible precautions when meeting someone you have previously known only online.

01 consider meeting in a public or professional location first;
02 tell somebody you trust where you are going;
03 arrange your own transport where practical;
04 do not feel obliged to remain somewhere that makes you uncomfortable;
05 check event and organiser details before paying or travelling;
06 report serious concerns about organisers or members to The Joined.

Unless expressly stated otherwise, The Joined is not the organiser of a member-created meetup or event.

10
BEHIND THE CURTAIN

HOW MODERATION WORKS.

Reports and potentially harmful activity may be reviewed by authorised moderators or administrators.

01
REPORT

We receive a report or otherwise become aware of a potential issue.

02
TRIAGE

We consider urgency, potential harm and whether immediate action may be needed.

03
REVIEW

Relevant content, context and available information are assessed.

04
DECISION

We determine whether action is appropriate and what action is proportionate.

05
FOLLOW-UP

Where appropriate, affected users may receive information about the outcome or available review process.

We may prioritise reports involving credible threats, exploitation, unlawful content, serious harassment, fraud or risks to personal safety.

11
CONSEQUENCES

ACTIONS WE MAY TAKE.

Moderation is not necessarily all-or-nothing. The appropriate response depends on the circumstances.

01 NO ACTION

We may conclude that the reported material does not breach our rules.

02 WARNING

We may warn a member and explain the relevant rule.

03 RESTRICT

Visibility or particular account features may be restricted.

04 REMOVE

Content may be removed where appropriate.

05 SUSPEND

An account may temporarily lose access.

06 TERMINATE

Serious or repeated violations may result in account closure.

07 ESCALATE

Certain matters may be referred to an appropriate authority.

08 PROTECT

We may take other proportionate steps needed to protect users or the service.

12
WE CAN GET THINGS WRONG

APPEALS & COMPLAINTS.

Moderation involves judgement and we may occasionally make mistakes.

Where an appropriate review or appeal mechanism is available, members affected by a moderation decision may ask us to reconsider it.

When requesting a review, explain why you believe the original decision was incorrect and provide any relevant context that may have been missed.

An appeal does not guarantee that a moderation decision will be reversed.

Complaints concerning the operation of our safety or reporting systems may also be submitted using the secure Safety & Moderation form in section 19 below.

13
AGE

YOUNGER USERS.

The Joined's membership service is currently intended for people aged 18 and over.

A stated minimum age is only one part of operating an online community safely. We may use technical, organisational or age-assurance measures where appropriate or legally required.

We also periodically assess whether parts of the service are likely to be accessed by children and what safeguards may be required.

18+ DOESN'T MEAN “ANYTHING GOES”.

The Joined is an adult creative community, not an unrestricted-content platform.

14
DON'T DOX PEOPLE

PRIVACY & PERSONAL INFORMATION.

Do not publish another person's private or sensitive information in circumstances where doing so is unlawful, threatening or creates an unreasonable safety risk.

This may include information such as:

Home addresses Private phone numbers Passwords Financial details Private documents Live location Identity documents Intimate material

Publicly available professional information does not automatically become prohibited simply because somebody dislikes it being discussed. Context, purpose and safety risk matter.

For information about how The Joined itself handles personal information, see our Privacy Policy.

15
RESPECT THE WORK

COPYRIGHT & CREATIVE RIGHTS.

Do not upload or distribute creative work that you do not have the right to use.

Copyright disputes are different from general safety reports, although the two can sometimes overlap.

If you believe material on The Joined infringes rights that you own or are authorised to enforce, contact us with enough information to identify:

01 the protected work;
02 the material you believe infringes it;
03 where that material appears on The Joined;
04 your relationship to the rights concerned.

Knowingly submitting false intellectual-property complaints may itself breach our rules.

16
IMMEDIATE DANGER

THE JOINED IS NOT AN EMERGENCY SERVICE.

Reports to The Joined may not be reviewed immediately.

If you or another person is in immediate danger, do not wait for a response from a moderator.

UK EMERGENCY CALL 999

Contact the appropriate local emergency service if you are outside the United Kingdom.

After dealing with the immediate danger, you can also report relevant activity to The Joined so that we can consider action on the platform.

17
REPORT RESPONSIBLY

MISUSE OF REPORTING TOOLS.

Safety tools exist to protect people, not to win arguments.

You must not deliberately misuse reporting systems to harass another member, overwhelm moderators, manipulate a dispute or repeatedly submit reports that you know are false.

A report made honestly will not breach this rule simply because we ultimately decide that no violation occurred.

18
KEEPING THIS CURRENT

CHANGES TO THIS POLICY.

Our safety approach may develop as The Joined introduces new services such as additional messaging, media, events, marketplace functions or production tools.

We may update this policy to reflect platform changes, experience gained from moderation, changes in risk or legal and regulatory requirements.

The current version will be published on this page with its latest update date.
