“Bristol: Born of History, Built by Change” is an ambitious, cinematic documentary project that traces the evolution of one of Britain’s most influential cities. It is a sweeping visual journey through time, revealing how Bristol’s identity has been shaped, challenged, and ultimately strengthened by centuries of transformation. From ancient settlements to global innovation, the project presents the city not just as a place, but as a living organism—constantly rebuilt by the people who call it home. The film travels chronologically through Bristol’s defining eras: the early Iron Age communities on the Downs, the arrival of the Saxons, the turbulence of Norman conquest, the rising power of medieval trade, the city’s profound role in exploration and empire, the industrial momentum of the 18th and 19th centuries, the devastation and rebuilding after the Blitz, and the vibrant, multicultural society of the modern day. Each chapter blends reconstructed scenes, animation, archival material, and sweeping live-action cinematography to bring the past vividly to life. Throughout the project, Bristol’s landscapes and architecture act as anchors—its harbours, bridges, streets, railways, and sky-lines appearing as constant witnesses to the city’s evolution. Human stories remain at the core: merchants, sailors, soldiers, factory workers, creators, migrants, activists, and festival-goers—all captured through intimate close-ups and immersive storytelling. The film doesn’t shy away from Bristol’s complicated history, including its central role in the transatlantic slave trade and the legacies that followed. Instead, it acknowledges these chapters honestly, placing them within the wider story of a city continually reshaped by social, cultural, and political change. As the narrative reaches the present day, Bristol becomes a symbol of transformation—an engine of culture, creativity, technology, green innovation, and community spirit. From Banksy murals to Harbourside festivals, from aviation to animation, the city stands as a testament to resilience, reinvention, and the power of collective identity. “Bristol: Born of History, Built by Change” is both a celebration and a reflection. It is a tribute to the forces that built Bristol—and the people who continue to move it forward.

My first serious attempt to make a song and music video. So, I wrote the song, then used the AI to improve the rhyme and add flare to it. After, I used the AI to sing the song and compose the music. After, I made a music video using multiple AI techniques. The song is called "I Never Knew Myself" and is performed by my AI alter ego, Mara Ashwood.
